Quick tips for dealing with a traffic stop

You may be STOPPED if:

  • You speed
  • Your tags are expired
  • You weave or drive recklessly
  • You fail to signal
  • Your vehicle is not properly functional

You may also be pulled over if the officer has any reason to suspect you are committing or will commit a crime

Upon request, you are OBLIGATED:

  • To provide your name and identification
  • To provide your insurance and registration
  • To exit the vehicle

These are your only obligations. Doing or saying anything further is giving up your rights and may be used to arrest or prosecute you

Upon request, you may (and should) REFUSE:

  • To say where you've been or where you're going or if you've been drinking
  • To give consent to search your vehicle or person
  • To perform field sobriety tests
  • To engage in any conversation with the officer

The officer may pretend to be concerned for your safety or try to make casual conversation. This is a common tactic they use to gather information

Common MISTAKES during a traffic stop:

  • Engaging in conversation with the officer
  • Arguing with the officer
  • Consenting to be searched
  • Trying to talk your way out of a ticket or an arrest

I am very happy with the result I got. She told me in the beginning that she can’t promise me a result, but that she can guarantee that she will do the best she can. And she did. She knows all the prosecutors and that helped to get me a good result.

This is not the first time I had to hire an attorney. The first time, I hired an attorney who never answered the phone, never returned calls. I never knew what was happening with my case. Ms. Ionescu is very accessible and always answered my questions. That put me at ease and made this process a lot easier. I recommend her to anybody who needs a good DWI attorney.

She is the best DWI attorney in Houston. She is a former prosecutor and she knows a lot about DWI cases. She explained to me how things will happen in court, and that is exactly how it happens. She always got to court on time.
